STRUT ’08 Silent Auction Benefits Local Non-profit

Triangle Fashion Community Rallies to Support Interact

Raleigh, N.C. (April 7, 2008) – When seven nationally acclaimed fashion designers return home to the Triangle on May 3 for the STRUT 08 fashion show, they’ll be raising awareness and supporting an important cause beyond their latest lines of clothing and accessories. Each of the designers, along with several of the show’s sponsors, have donated items for a silent auction to be held prior to the show to raise money for Interact, the Raleigh-based non-profit dedicated to providing safety, support and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault throughout Wake County.

The STRUT 08 Silent Auction will begin online at www.strut08.com on April 18. A final bidding party with all items on display, including Oprah’s ‘little black dress’, will be held as the kickoff to the STRUT 08 fashion show on May 3, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., in the storefront space at 4361 Lassiter in North Hills.

"STRUT 08 is a celebration of acclaimed designers who all share personal ties to the Triangle," says Brian Williams, producer and originator of STRUT 08. "Hosting the silent auction in support of Interact is a chance for each of us to give back to the community that has been an important inspiration and a place everyone involved in the show has been able to call home."

 Oprah's Badgley Mischka "little black
dress" is part of the STRUT 08 Silent
 Auction to benefit Interact.

One of the highlights of the STRUT 08 silent auction will be the Badgley Mischka "little black dress" initially owned and made famous by Oprah Winfrey. It was first auctioned during a Clean Out Your Closet show in 2004 and won by high-bidder Sandra Carringer from Apex, N.C.

The Oprah dress has since been auctioned off by Carringer and others in the name of charity several more times, fetching bids as high as $13,000 while changing hands and traveling across several state lines. Modeling the dress during the May 3 bidding party will be Othaey Fisher, an Interact spokesperson, volunteer and Raleigh mom who benefited from the services of the non-profit when she was a teenager.

"Thanks to First Citizens Bank and other donors, Oprah’s ‘little black dress’ is coming back to North Carolina and will be part of the STRUT 08 runway show as well as the silent auction in support of our organization," says Linda Turner, director of development for Interact. "Interact and First Citizens Bank are happy to offer the dress for this auction and continue its incredible fund-raising journey." The famous dress will be on display prior to the event at North Hills beginning April 14.

Interact will receive 100 percent of the proceeds from the STRUT 08 silent auction and winning bidders will be announced during an after-party at Mura Japanese Restaurant. Food and cocktails from Mura will be available for purchase during the May 3 bidding party.
